Our Shepherdstown Visitors Center welcoming hours are 10AM – 4PM daily.

When starting your journey at the Visitors Center on the corner of Princess and German Street, you can gather up a walking tour guide and brochures that tell the story of the town and its historic sites, such as, The Little House and the Rumsey Monument honoring James Rumsey, first inventor of the steam powered boat.

As you venture through, you will observe the small 18th century village of Thomas Shepherd’s town with its unique architecture and the Town Run, which flows right though the heart of the town under homes, and behind restaurants. Historic Shepherdstown, incorporated in 1762, is the oldest town in West Virginia. Presently a college town, the town is nestled in the lower Shenandoah Valley, on the bluffs of the Potomac River.

This is where you can receive information on all of the one-of-a kind shops, fabulous lodging and more than a dozen fine dining, and casual restaurants that include indoor and outdoor seating. You will find they are distinguished by serving a variety of local food offerings, many with ethnic roots.

A couple features for your enjoyment that shouldn’t be missed, O’hurley’s General Store, an old-fashioned general store, with free musical performances on Thursday evenings, and the Shepherdstown Opera House, an independent converted movie theater, showing movies Friday through Monday nights and the Shepherdstown Sweet Shop.
